Dear Enemy
by Whitney Laree Greenwood Johnson
Dear Enemy
You promised to be my friend, but a false friend
you were.
I turned to you for self esteem, you lowered my self esteem.
I came to you for comfort, you only caused me torment.
I came to you when I was sad, you didn’t make me happy.
I came to you to help me calm down when I was under stress,
the relief was only temporary. I came to you to feel accepted,
you made me feel worthless. I came to you to get respect from
other people, it made no difference. I tried to throw my burdens
on you; you only gave more to carry on my shoulders. I came
to you to feel safe, you increased my fear. I came to you
for companionship, you made me lonelier. I came to you to
fill a void; you made me felt just as empty.
I loved you, cherished you, I fought to keep
you. I wouldn’t let others take you away from me. But even
when I decided that I wanted you gone. You wouldn’t leave.
You tried to hold me in your vice. You still try to force
your way into my life.
You will not win oh enemy of mine, I will fight
you until the end. Why can’t you hear me I don’t want you
anymore?
Good By and Good By Forever.
Who is this enemy? An eating disorder.
